Use individualized medical advice
Ask the prescribing clinician how medication should be carried, stored and replaced, and whether documentation is appropriate for airport security or border entry. Rules for medicines differ by destination and can change.
Keep essentials available
Do not place the only supply of rescue medication or the only copy of an emergency plan in checked luggage. Make sure supervising adults know where everything is and can follow the clinician-provided instructions.
- Clinician-provided allergy and emergency plan
- Prescribed medication in original labeled packaging where advised
- Insurance and medical-assistance contacts
- Offline and printed allergy cards
- Local emergency number and nearby medical facility
Know when the app is not enough
If an allergic reaction is suspected, follow the clinician-provided emergency plan and contact local emergency services. Do not wait for translation, connectivity, an article or a restaurant response before seeking emergency help.
